# Share of Shelf

> Measure how much recommendation visibility a product, brand or merchant captures across conversational AI shopping experiences.

Conversational AI doesn't recommend every product equally.

Some products, brands and merchants appear repeatedly across shopping responses, while others are only recommended occasionally.

**Share of Shelf** measures how much of the AI Shelf is occupied by a given entity, making it the primary indicator of recommendation visibility.

Rather than counting simple mentions, Share of Shelf measures **how often an entity appears within all observed shopping placements**, allowing you to compare competitors on a common scale.

## How Share of Shelf is calculated

Share of Shelf represents the proportion of all shopping placements occupied by an entity within the current analysis.

The calculation is:

> **Share of Shelf = Number of shopping placements for the selected entity ÷ Total number of shopping placements**

The metric is expressed as a percentage (%).

The denominator always corresponds to the **current analysis scope**. If you apply filters such as engines, date ranges, themes or topics, the total number of shopping placements is recalculated accordingly and Share of Shelf is updated automatically.

> **Example**
>
> If your filtered analysis contains 800 shopping placements and a product appears in 120 of them, its Share of Shelf is **15%**.

## How to read this KPI

A higher Share of Shelf means an entity is recommended more frequently across conversational shopping experiences.

It measures **recommendation frequency**, not recommendation order.

A product, brand or merchant can therefore have:

* a **high Share of Shelf**, meaning it appears in many shopping recommendations;
* or a **lower Share of Shelf**, meaning it is recommended less frequently.

Share of Shelf is always interpreted within the context of the current filtered analysis.

<Tip>
  Opening a **Product**, **Brand** or **Merchant** details panel does **not** recalculate Share of Shelf using only that entity. The denominator remains the total number of shopping placements within the current filtered analysis.

  This ensures that every Product, Brand and Merchant remains directly comparable within the same AI shopping ecosystem.

## How this KPI fits with other signals

The Visibility Score complements:

* [**Presence Rate**](/platform/search/presence-rate) — focuses on frequency of appearance.
* [**Sentiment Score**](/platform/search/sentiment-score) — qualifies how brand mentions are framed.

Together, these KPIs let you distinguish:

* frequent but low-impact visibility,
* strong positioning with limited coverage,
* visible narratives that are positively or negatively framed.
